Environmental Issues
Selectaglaze is committed to pursuing its business having regard to the environmental consequences of its processes and actions. Key areas for attention include avoidance of waste through careful purchasing and processing procedures, recycling of waste, use of recycled materials, waste management and energy efficiency.
MaterialsThe key materials used in production are aluminium and glass. Computerised optimisation programmes ensure that these are purchased in a manner that minimises waste. Softwood timbers and mdf are used wherever possible for subframes and grounds. This is purchased from sources which are regulated and managed in a sustainable way. Company promotional material and letterheads are printed on re-cycled paper.
Waste and recylingThe Company recycles the main production materials of aluminum and glass. Aluminum scrap is melted down and extruded into new products. Glass cullet is either used in the glass manufacturing process or in the production of other building materials.
Other materials such as wood, cardboard and paper are separated for recycling and all other material removed and sorted for recycling by a licensed waste contractor. This ensures minimum use of landfill.
PackagingPackaging is limited to card protection for aluminium inputs and tape protection only to the windows during delivery and installation.
EnergyThe Company seeks to reduce its use of energy through specification of energy efficient equipment and adherence to maintenance cycles. The Company’s product will make a significant contribution to reducing the energy needs in buildings.
The Company regularly reviews its impact on the environment and modifies its policy as appropriate.
