Series 45 Fixed Panel Operation and MaintenanceOperationThere is no operation involved with this unit.MaintenanceCleaning AccessIf the rear glass surface is not accessible via an adjacent opening unit, the whole frame must be removed to allow cleaning.CleaningThe cleaning cycle will be dictated by local conditions and should consist of washing down the glass and aluminium with a non alkaline detergent in warm water using a soft cloth. For more stubborn marks on the aluminium a soft brush or nylon pad should be used. Avoid abrasive cleaners, steel wool, strong acids or alkalis. After cleaning it is advisable to rinse the surfaces with clean water and then wipe dry. Chips or scratches in a paint finish can be touched in using a matching non cellulose paint. Repair of anodised finishes is not practical other than by touching in with a colour matched paint but the finished appearance is seldom complementary.Frame RemovalA full manual risk assessment must first be made. Remove the visible frame fixing screws and ease the whole frame forwards to clear the timber grounds. A glass suction pad may be needed to assist the removal. A mastic seal is applied between the aluminium frame and timber ground. It is recommended that this is cleaned off and a new bead of non-setting mastic applied before reinstatement. If the unit is constructed from annealed (non safety) glass, it must not be left standing at low level if other people are in the vicinity without a warning sign or suitable protection.Re-glazingThis can be carried out by a competent person after completing a full risk assessment. Remove the frame as described and lay the unit on a suitable bench surface. Remove the corner screws, ease the aluminium bars of the channel gasket. Obtain a new piece of glass after establishing size, thickness and type. Carefully wrap the gasket on to the new piece of glass and re-apply the aluminium bars using initial hand pressure. Knock on with a block and mallet ensuring that the bars are straight and true. Replace the corner screws and "dress" the shoulder of the gasket onto the aluminium with a smooth flat pointed object (see diagram).
