Series 60 Tilt-in Vertical Sliding Operation and Maintenance
OperationThe sashes can slide after releasing any locking catches and the spring balances will support the sash in any position. Avoid any fast movement or slamming action since this will adversely affect the spiral spring balances. It is recommended that both hands are used when operating the window. The top sash is operated by first lifting the lower sash and either pulling down on the rear ledge of the interlock bar or using the optional œD” handles where specified. The tilt action is designed to allow access for cleaning and maintenance. Lift the lower sash slightly, place fingers on the small flat knobs on the top rail and slide inwards. When the catches are released, the sash can tilt in towards the operator. Do not let go, but continue to tilt the sash until it is held by the side stays at approximately 30°. The rear glass surface can then be cleaned. Lower the top sash and repeat the process. A friction brake holds the sash in place in the open position and prevents vertical movement. Do not try to slide the sash up and down in this open position. The sashes are closed by simply pushing them towards the frame until the catches re-engage.
MaintenanceCleaningThe cleaning cycle will be dictated by local conditions and should consist of washing down the glass and aluminium with a non alkaline detergent in warm water using a soft cloth. For more stubborn marks on the aluminium a soft brush or nylon pad should be used. Avoid abrasive cleaners, steel wool, strong acids or alkalis. After cleaning it is advisable to rinse the surfaces with clean water and then wipe dry. Chips or scratches in a paint finish can be touched in using a matching non cellulose paint and care must be taken not to get this into draught seals or moving parts. Repair of anodised finishes is not practical other than by touching in with a colour matched paint but the finished appearance is seldom complementary.
Balance AdjustmentThe spring balances are factory adjusted but, with use, the tension can change allowing the sash to creep up (over tension) or drop (under tension). Adjustment is carried out using a tensioning tool. Instructions and a tool are available from Selectaglaze.
Balance ReplacementWhen a balance fails, the weight of the sash becomes unsupported. It should be lowered to the bottom of the frame and a warning sign attached. The window has to be fully removed to allow replacement and instructions are available from Selectaglaze. The work must be carried out by a competent person after completing a full risk assessment.
Stay armThis has some friction applied to slow the movement of the sash and can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the brass grub screw situated within the frame at the end of the friction arm.
Re-glazingThe window must be removed to allow re-glazing and instructions are available from Selectaglaze. A competent person must carry out the work after completing a full risk assessment.
