Energy Savings in Newspaper Makeover!

Associated Newspapers

When Associated Newspapers, publishers of the Daily Mail, decided to refurbish their offices at Northcliffe House in the heart of Kensington, the challenge was to provide an energy efficient, contemporary working environment, addressing heat loss, solar gain and insulation from the noise of busy Kensington High Street whilst preserving the breath-taking Listed art deco façade intact. Selectaglaze developed a casement window based on the existing Series 50 heavy duty system with an extended bead to accept a ‘Part L’ compliant sealed unit. The glazing combined one pane of Ecolite low emissivity glass for solar control with one of 6mm Softcoat to minimise heat loss. A 200mm gap between the original steel windows and the secondary installation ensured the most effective noise control. The monumental dimensions of the finished units (most over 2.5m high) left sight lines completely unaffected. A total of 88 units were installed in single and coupled formats.
