Six decades of Selectaglaze:
A legacy of craftsmanship and innovation
1960s

Our timeline began in 1966 when Chris Childerstone, a former RAF pilot, founded Selectaglaze in Harrow-on-the-Hill, pioneering acoustic secondary glazing in the UK.
We conducted our first acoustic test, setting the standard for technical excellence that continues to guide us today.
1970s
We relocated to St Albans, where our headquarters remain – a city that’s become part of our story.
Meredith Childerstone was appointed Managing Director, continuing the family legacy and commitment to quality and innovation.

1980s
We launched our heavy-duty secondary glazing systems to meet growing acoustic and security demands across a range of sectors.
1990s

We carried out our first certified blast test in collaboration with the Home Office, marking a new chapter in protective glazing.
We proudly completed our first project for the Royal Household, reinforcing our reputation for quality and service excellence.
Keith Mercer, now our Managing Director, joined Selectaglaze, bringing with him deep engineering expertise. His arrival marked a turning point - helping us accelerate innovation and strengthen technical leadership across thermal, acoustic and security secondary glazing as well as lay the groundwork for our long-term sustainability focus.
2000s
We delivered our first RIBA-approved CPD seminar, supporting architects and specifiers with expert knowledge and guidance.
We installed our first certified blast test unit in a live project, demonstrating real-world resilience and reliability.
We were honoured to receive the Royal Warrant of Appointment to Her Majesty the Queen, a recognition of our outstanding service and quality.
We attained ISO 9001 certification, formalising our commitment to rigorous quality management.

2010s
We expanded our product range to over 20 styles, including curved and shaped units for complex heritage windows. Our work has featured in iconic buildings such as Windsor Castle, the Supreme Court and the Bank of England.
2020s
We deepened our commitment to sustainability, achieving Planet Mark Certification and supporting the UK’s net zero goals.
We also transitioned to an Employee Ownership Trust, securing our long-term future and investing in our people and community.

We were proud to be awarded the Royal Warrant of Appointment to His Majesty the King, reaffirming our place among Britain’s most trusted suppliers.
