CIOB Conference

Due to the current situation we all find ourselves in, the CIOB has decided to run the conference virtually this year. We will be attending and welcome anyone to come and 'chat' to us online, to explore how secondary glazing can help make heritage and Listed buildings more sustainable, quieter and safer. Future skills for traditional buildings conference run by the CIOB, which is dedicated to the conservation, adaptation and maintenance of the built environment. The main themes for exploration this year are how to balance the shortage of skilled craftspeople with the needs of the sector. This shortfall has coincided with an upsurge in demand for these skills with an increase in heritage projects.  Questions to be explored during the day include:
  • In which ways can we balance the traditional skill shortage with the need to move to modern working practices?
  • Can apprenticeships facilitate this?
  • How 'fit for purpose' are apprenticeships to meet requirements in the heritage/conservation sector?
  • What are the attractions of this specialist area to built environment professionals
  • Career options – where are the opportunities
