Base2Stay, one of Liverpool's newest boutique hotels is located in the Rope Walks area. The building dates back to the 1850s. The £14m renovation has produced an hotel offering a variety of luxury and unique room types.
The old windows were replaced with metal framed double glazed units, but these alone did not provide the high levels of noise insulation required. Therefore an additional secondary window was installed to form triple glazing that not only achieved very high levels of sound insulation but further improved the thermal performance of the building.
Most of the hotel's 160 rooms and public areas were treated with full sized hinged casements. Frames to the reception area were painted black and curved at the head to complement and highlight the exposed brickwork. At roof level, sloping windows were treated with slim horizontal sliding panels. 6mm safety glass was used throughout for guest protection and opaque film applied to selected windows for additional privacy.
