CRASH: Caritas Anchor House

Selectaglaze and Pilkington support CRASH with secondary glazing for new computer room

Client:  CRASH (Construction Industry Charity)

Selectaglaze helps create and enhance a computer suite at London homelessness charity, Caritas Anchor House as part of their on-going relationship with the CRASH charity.                Caritas Anchor House is based in Newham, one of the most deprived boroughs in the UK. They work with vulnerable groups providing a home and support to over 200 people, helping them into employment and independent living. Wishing to create a light and airy space where people could see in and out, as opposed to an enclosed area; secondary glazing was installed to create internal vision panels. However, to comply with Health and Safety the area required fire insulated walls.  CRASH Chief Executive, Francesca Roberts contacted Selectaglaze asking if they would be willing to donate secondary glazing for the computer suite at Caritas Anchor House. Selectaglaze was happy to contribute and involved Pilkington with them donating the fire-resistant glass to support the installation.  Three Series 40 units with 10mm Pyrodur fire-rated glass were installed, which has a beaded fixed frame system offering 30 minute fire integrity protection. The units were framed in fire-rated timber grounds and mullions. An additional benefit was the improvement of acoustic insulation.
