St Andrew's Church in Much Hadham is a Grade I listed building dating back to the 13th century. During an inspection of the church's bell system, installed in the 19th century, St Andrew's Parochial Church Council (PCC) discovered poor installation and deteriorating fittings, both in urgent need of modernisation. They decided it was time to refurbish not only the historic bell system but the tower itself. While the eight ringing bells were taken off-site to be refurbished (and later rehung using the existing frame with new headstocks and wheels), secondary glazing was also specified. Not only would this cut noise and improve thermal performance, but it would also protect the tower's fittings from the elements. However, getting the units up the tower's narrow spiral staircase would prove one of Selectaglaze's most ambitious installations to date.
