Unyielding Security: The LPS 1673 Standard

Forget ‘industry-leading’, this is an industry first. No other glazing company – secondary or otherwise – designs, manufactures and fits LPS 1673-accredited security windows. The LPS 1673 standard represents the pinnacle of security innovation, combining advanced materials, bespoke engineering and rigorous testing to deliver unparalleled protection. Whether it's the relentless blows of a sledgehammer, levering with a crowbar or cutting and hacking with knives and axes, our products are designed to stand up to the most demanding security challenges.

Years of expertise and innovation

Selectaglaze has drawn upon years of product testing and development combined with an in-depth knowledge of secondary glazing and its application to bring you five products certified to LPS 1673. This extensive experience ensures that our products provide the highest level of security.

Advanced security features

Protection against such attacks starts with the glazing materials. Standard laminates, even those previously considered anti bandit, are no match for the weapons used in these tests. Therefore, advanced security laminates using layers of heat-strengthened glass, polycarbonate and resin bonding are essential. These materials provide exceptional resistance to aggressive assaults.

Enhanced glazing methods

Nobody wants the glazing, however sophisticated, to be dislodged from the framing after the first, second or even fiftieth blow from a club or sledgehammer. To ensure this, glazing methods must be enhanced to perform under the harshest of assaults. Our products are designed to withstand continuous and relentless attacks, maintaining their integrity and security.

Bespoke security locking devices

Lastly, secondary windows are designed to be opened, but only by authorised personnel. To achieve this, bespoke security locking devices, both passive and active, need to be deployed on all opening edges. These devices resist attackers trying to crowbar their way in, ensuring that the windows remain secure.

Protect against the most violent attacks

To achieve LPS 1673 accreditation, our products are subjected to attacks using a variety of different tool sets. Ratings are from A to D, reflecting escalating threat levels – from an opportunistic attack with a bladed weapon to a deliberate assault with a sledgehammer or fire axe. There is an additional rating ‘E’ for attacks using a fire extinguisher.

Buy valuable escape time

No window is 100% unbreakable. But LPS 1673 accredited products can withstand attacks for anything from 30 to 300 seconds (5 minutes). Take a look at the table below for a full guide to LPS 1673 ratings.

Break time for test engineers

Our windows really are tested to their limits. When it comes to sledgehammer attacks, BRE test engineers work in relays of 60 seconds to make sure there is no let-up in aggression. As you can see from the video below, the attacker’s strength fails before our window breaks.
